with immediate effect
Eastern Counties are delighted to announce the appointment of Aaron Swanborough as EC Women’s Manager with immediate effect.
Aaron will in addition retain his position as Head Coach, working alongside fellow coaches Ian “Spike” Milligan and Charl Farquar and is fully committed to build on the recent development of the Women’s game in Eastern Counties.
Aaron on taking on the role said “Being appointed the head coach and team manager of the women’s Eastern Counties side is an honour and I will do whatever it takes to ensure we continue on this great path that women’s rugby is taking. With the team behind this year’s Eastern Counties setup and the playing talent that I have seen so far, we are sure to have a great season. I am an approachable coach, just like the rest of the management and coaching team and our doors are always open if you have any questions, ideas or recommendations.”
Aaron brings years of Rugby experience to the role, having been involved in rugby since a young age it has been a key part of his life initially as a player at Norwich and Wymondham and more recently in a coaching role at Wymondham Wasps (Ladies) which was always the next logical step for him. Coaching the Wymondham Wasps has given him the grounding he needs to get stuck into this challenging role.
Which is a good job as the EC Women’s schedule for this season is packed, with preliminary trials having already taken place in November 2016 and most recently last Sunday at Shelford RFC. They also have two further sessions coming up on the 5th February at Stowmarket RFC and on the 19th February at Thetford RFC, these sessions will really focus on key areas and game plan. Following the session on the 19th February, the EC management and coaching team will select their squad ahead of the championships. On the 26th March the EC squad will come together for a team building event, more information will follow on this shortly.
On the 2nd April EC host a friendly against Essex at Stowmarket RFC, this will a great test before the championships begin. Further squad training sessions are planned for the 9th April at Thetford and possibly the 16th April, yet to be confirmed.
EC Women’s team then take part in the RFU Women’s County Championship, playing Warwickshire at Stowmarket RFC in their first game on 23rd April, followed by two away fixtures on the 30th April and 7th May away to Oxfordshire and Leicestershire before hosting Cheshire at West Norfolk RFC on 13th May.
