Eastern Counties Rugby Union

This season Eastern Counties, City Academy Norwich and the RFU All Schools project combined to create a new rugby pitch at City Academy Norwich.
The school is in Year 1 of the All Schools Project which has helped introduce rugby on to the PE curriculum. Until now the school had refrained from having rugby on the curriculum due to unsafe playing facilities however with the introduction of the new rugby pitch this is no longer an issue.

The pitch opened on Sunday 31st January where it hosted Crusaders RFC & City Academy Norwich vs Lakenham Hewett RFC & Hewett Academy. The club and schools were combined based on geographical area to build club school links. This match resulted in 4 new players joining these clubs.

The instillation of the pitch has been paramount to the growth and sustainability of rugby within the school and also in the local community as the pitch has been a catalyst for the recruitment for Crusaders RFC forming a new under 13s team. As the pitch has played host to a number of fixtures for targeted All Schools including Jane Austin College, Sprowston High School and Hellesdon High School.
