All parts of the game to be involved in agreeing options for playing rugby in 2021
All clubs in Eastern Counties will be invited to meetings organised by Eastern Counties Rugby Union and the three county unions of Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk to discuss how the game can restart across the East of England.
A set of proposals for some clubs at the higher end of the game is expected from RFU headquarters at Twickenham on 13 November. Eastern Counties welcomes this initiative and notes that participation will be optional for those clubs. We want to ensure that clubs at all levels, including 2nd and lower teams as well as first XVs and women's teams as well as men's, can create a playing programme that suits their needs.
The Chair of Eastern Counties has written to all clubs letting them know that meetings would be organised before the end of November with a view to understanding clubs' positions and ambitions so that local proposals to meet those needs can be prepared.
As things stand it is not clear when rugby can resume. Once the national lockdown is over there may be a period when 10-a-side touch rugby is allowed with either an adapted form of contact rugby or the full fifteen-a-side game then starting later. Eastern Counties hopes to ensure that clubs are able to make their plans to be ready for whatever the rest of the season holds.
