Colchester hosted its traditional Maundy Thursday "returners" game
Colts v Old Colts for the Pritchard Cup
The current Colts fielded a squad of 23 against 14 of last years' Colts squad with 3 Under 20s, in front of a crowd of 150 spectators.
The main purpose of the event is to reunite former Colts and their parents with the club. Many of the lads are continuing to play at College, but for some this was their first game for 12 months, and certainly for all this was their first game together for a year. Old friendships were reunited in a free flowing, highly entertaining game of rugby. A feature of the game was current Colts captain, Matt Hexley hooking against his older brother Dan.
The game was refereed by EC CCPD Chairman, Ross Cowie with none other than Lord Andrew Sarek, retiring RFU Council Member for ECs waddling the touch.
The game started at a blistering pace, with the Old Colts, using their greater physicality, going 2 tries up in the first period, but gradually the younger lads worked their way back into the game, with a further 8 tries being shared, in a final scoreline of Colts - 26 points (4 tries) Old Colts
- 32 points (6 tries) Try scorers for the Colts were Mikey Johnston, Francois Roussow, Tom Gallagher & Chowa Chanda; try scorers for the Old Colts included Harry Lee-Allen, Henry Dave, Fawaz (2)& Josh Tierney (2)
Former President of Colchester RFC, Stuart Pritchard presented his Cup to Liam Tully, captain of the Old Colts
