Job Description
The role holder will contribute to the growth & sustainability of the game by supporting coaches, teachers, match officials and other appropriate personnel delivering rugby in clubs, schools, colleges, universities and other community settings. They will be responsible for supporting / mentoring new and existing coaches and match officials and for delivering high quality training as required.
The CRC will also play an active role in mentoring/supporting new and existing coaches, teachers and others in increasing their knowledge of, and confidence to deliver, the game; especially those newly qualified. By building strong relationships with local rugby clubs you will help to strengthen their capacity, performance and confidence of coaches, match officials, medics and rugby leaders/volunteers through the delivery of high quality coaching, quality initial training and CPD.
Key responsibilities will include:
Delivery of high quality coaching to groups, and in environments, as directed by the Rugby Development Officer and, as a default, alongside existing coaches in those environments
Working with Club Coach/Referee training Coordinators, in clubs identified by RDOs, to support the development of existing coaches, and match officials
Mentor and support teachers, lecturers and other adults in schools, colleges and universities to introduce the game to students and to improve the quality of provision
Actively collaborate with colleagues to contribute to the development and delivery of Rugby & Club Development strategic, business and operational plans
Support the development of Touch Rugby, Sevens and XRugby by delivering high quality training/staff inductions to support Touch and 7s operators
Report activity and output as required
To succeed in this role, you must have sound knowledge and understanding of the game and its operation, and a strong understanding of club Rugby with experience of coaching Rugby Union to young people and adults in a range of environments. Must have practical experience of supporting/mentoring and delivering training to coaches/match officials/medics/rugby leaders/volunteers with a strong empathy with those becoming involved in Rugby for the first time, and demonstrate a thorough approach to delivery and be able to organize themselves and others effectively; with proven time management and prioritization skills.
You must also hold a current Coach License and a RFU coaching qualification; preferable UKCC Rugby Union Level 2 or equivalent, (if not at level 2, to be completed within 6 months of commencement of employment). You will also hold a RFU Refereeing Qualification (Preferable England Rugby Referees Award, or equivalent) with a recognized First Aid qualification (St John’s/Red Cross/First Aid at Work), and if not a commitment to complete within 6 months of commencement of employment.
The role holder must be an effective team member with sufficient flexibility and willingness to take on roles outside his/her normal functional responsibility when required, and have the stamina, perseverance and flexibility to cope with unsociable hours, and able to commit to work regular weekend and evening hours to meet the needs of clubs, schools, colleges and universities. You will also be able to communicate effectively and to present a highly professional image when representing the RFU; establish positive working relationships with voluntary and professional staff in clubs, schools, colleges and universities and balance a determined application of the role with a sense of fun and enjoyment.
The post holder will be expected to cover Eastern Counties, and will need to to live on, or be willing to relocate to the area. As not based at the Twickenham headquarters must be available to work from there as and when required.
