Eastern Counties U20’s Programme 2019.20

Dear Club Coach, Director of Rugby & Club Chairman.

I am writing to you to ask you for your help and support, Eastern Counties has a Representative Player Pathway Programme. Our objective is to provide the opportunity to players across Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire to play representative rugby for Eastern Counties RU and ultimately have the chance to represent their country in the form of England Counties U20s.

The ECRU U20s programme starts on Sunday 12th January 2020 with an open session at Diss RFC starting at 13:00 running through to 15:00 Hours, the initial session is open to players that have been self, or club nominated or invited by one of the EC U20s coaches and management team. The programme itself is quite compact as we do not wish to impact on the players club commitments at this important time of the season, with just four training sessions, one warm up game and two RFU Assessed fixtures we hope to keep the disruption to the players club to a minimum while affording enough time to give the programme the weight it deserves. Training and fixtures take place on Sundays, and training is low impact. Our aim is to offer our U20s men a professional rugby environment to develop their game and enhance their experience as a rugby player.

This season we are fortunate to have on board a coaching team with broad experience we have a joint lead coaching team of Ben Penfold who plays 10 for Cambridge Rugby Club 1XV and Nick Greenhall a Level 4 coach and RFU Coach educator. Joining Ben as a backs coach we have Gerhard Wessels from Saffron Walden RFC & Royal Engineers Snr XV Head Coach, forwards specialist coaches Ryan Oakes from North Walsham RFC & Rob Conquest from Cambridge RFC and completing the team is Greg Hind who will be steering the ship as the Team Manager.

Your part is to nominate players who you think would benefit from being involved in the programme, supporting our young players to pursue this once in a lifetime experience is important and one that I hope you will embrace. The Kudos to the player and club alike inspires others within teams and rugby clubs and in my experience helps massively with player retention and recruitment when marketed correctly.
