Eastern Counties held their annual
Colts Sevens on Sunday 24th April at Stowmarket RFC, attracting 16 entries from 12 clubs, the best ever entry, rising from just 4 sides in 2014, to 12 in 2015.
Although the weather was very bitter for the time of the year, with some quality rugby played in an excellent atmosphere.
Teams were placed in pools of 4 teams, with all sides progressing to semi finals at their own level.
In the Thimble for the sides in 4th place, a joyful and dogged Stowmarket side beat Woodbridge B 22-12 to earn a popular win.
In the Spoon, for sides in 3rd place, Cambridge B (who had beaten Ely in the semis) beat Ipswich B (who had beaten Colchester B in the semis) by 28-17 to win a very competitive match.
In the Plate, Hadleigh defeated Southwold 19-12, and Braintree beat Saffron Walden 12-7 in 2 very close semis; another close game saw Braintree win 19-10 in yet another close final.
In the Trophy for the Brian Borges Cup, 2 outstanding semi finals saw Cambridge A defeat Woodbridge A by 26-19 with a last minute try, and Colchester A defeat Ipswich A 35 points to 22.
A quality and close final saw the lead change hands 4 times, before Colchester emerged victorious by 26 points to 17.
