Join us for a local derby of neighbouring constituent bodies when Eastern Counties take on Essex at Colchester.
Eastern Counties was formed in on October 28, 1890 and originally consisted of Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk. Cambridgeshire joined in 1952. The Counties was formed originally with the aim of producing a team capable of winning the County Championship, a national competition between teams produced by other regions or constituent bodies. Sadly it never quite achieved that ambition.
In 2003 Essex, about half the total both in area and number of clubs, left to form their own CB. Tonight's fixture celebrates the 113 years when Eastern Counties and Essex worked as one to further rugby in the East of England.
