For the 2018/19 season
Eastern Counties are delighted to announce the following three key appointments to the ECRU Representative team setup:-
Greg Hind: 1st XV & U20s Manager
Greg Hind takes over the management reins of the ECRU 1XV and U20s for the coming 2018.19 season. Greg has in the past managed the 39 Engineer regiment XV and been part of the management team for the Corp of Royal Engineers as well as the Army sevens and senior teams. His extensive experience and knowledge of the senior game in ECRU made him the stand out candidate for the 1XV and U20s managers role.
On being appointed Greg Hind said “I am Looking forward to working with the best players in the region along with the future of rugby In Eastern Counties and help strive for success on all levels”
Suzanne Allen: Women’s 1st XV Manager
Suzanne Allen has been appointed the ECRU women’s manager for the coming 2018/19 season a role which has been covered by Head Coach Aaron Swanborough who stays on as Head Coach. Suzanne has been heavily involved in the running of club rugby at Stowmarket RFC over the past decade where she has carried out many supportive roles within the club, making her the ideal person to take on the ECRU women’s mangers role, her knowledge of the behind the scenes working of the game and ability to make a difference will be a massive addition to the ECRU Women’s representative setup.
On being appointed Suzanne said “I am really pleased to now be given the opportunity to become Manager for the Eastern Counties Ladies, having spent some time around them last season I am looking forward to joining what is already a great team and will hopefully be able to assist them in furthering their already brilliant track record.”
Ian Whitby: Wanderers 2nd XV Manager
Ian Whitby has been appointed to manage the re-formed ECRU Wanderers team, Ian’s entire senior playing has been at Cambridge totalling 178 caps for the 1st XV and making it in to the Cambridge RFC Legends Team, he also received County caps during this time, representing Cambridgeshire in the front row for a number of seasons. More recently over the past 6 seasons, Ian has been part of the small but highly resourceful Management team at Cambridge RFC. His wealth of experience at both club and county level on and off the field made him the ideal candidate for the role.
On being appointed Ian said “I am really excited and greatly looking forward to be part of the Eastern Counties on this reintroduction of the Eastern Counties Wanderers Senior XV. Having the opportunity to be working with a new Coaching and Management team and more importantly players to improve the player development and give a defined pathway for their aspirations is something which will help strengthen the Eastern Counties Senior Squad in seasons to come”
ECRU Director of Representative Rugby, Chris Capps-Jenner said “These three new managerial appointments within the senior representative game at Eastern Counties are key to driving the game forward across Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. I am pleased we have the right people in place for these important roles, Greg, Suzanne and Ian are all experienced managers in their own rights and I am delighted they have joined the Eastern Counties RU team”
