The sun shone down on Thetford Rugby club for the first in this seasons, girls, “pitch up and play” sessions. The purpose of these sessions is to give girls from all the clubs in Eastern Counties some quality full sided games of rugby.
This season the U13s will be benefiting from the experience of Eastern Counties U15 head coach, Andrew Wilesmith, who will be running a series of development training sessions. The aim of the sessions is to put in place a development programme for the U13s that will prepare them for potential EC U15 rugby the following year. These sessions will run at each of the pitch up and plays so if you are in Year 7 or Year 8 please come along and give them a try. Andrew said “we had 10 girls from clubs across Eastern Counties and the standard was particularly good”.
Eastern Counties U15 Girls manager, Darren Wright said “After receiving valuable feedback from all our girls clubs, we made the decision to change the concept of our delivery for the U15 and U18 girls, from coaching sessions to game experience with appointed referees and physios. This gives girls from all clubs, the opportunity to join forces and get some much needed match experience. Both the U15s and u18s had good numbers considering the world cup is on and there was some great rugby on show. We are always looking out for talent so these pitch ups are very important to all the girls”.
Our thanks to Thetford for hosting, Olly Hare for looking after the U18s whilst Nicky was on world cup duty, our two referees who are very much on board with what we are doing and gave the girls some great advise from a referees viewpoint and Victoria our physio.
We now look forward to the next pitch up and play at Stowmarket RFC on October 18th
