E.C Women - 12 v 10 - Essex
Eastern Counties welcomed Essex to Stowmarket Rugby Club on a wonderful day for rugby. With the sun shining conditions were perfect for rugby.
Eastern Counties were the side piling on the pressure for the first 20 minutes, with Essex not even being able to get into the home sides half, but great defensive work from Essex kept Eastern Counties from crossing the line. But against the run of play Essex recovered the ball, kicked over the back line and with a great kick chase and a lucky bounce went into a unconverted try lead (0-5).
Half-Time: 0-5
Both sides made a few changes at half-time giving all the players the opportunity of some game time.
It wasn't long until the scores were level following a great run from full-back Georgie Lingham who outpaced the opposition to score and make it 5-5. Conversion was missed.
With both teams trying to break the deadlock it was Essex who went ahead again by scoring an unconverted try, taking it to 5-10 with just over 20 minutes left on the clock.
Both sides continued to make use of the unlimited interchanges especially with the heat beginning to take its toll on some players. Eastern Counties started to put the pressure on again with Essex remaining solid in defence. But it was Sophia John who levelled the scoreline with a great break away try scoring under the posts to make it 10-10. Annalise Allan then had the opportunity to put Eastern Counties in the lead with the conversion, which she was successful making it 12-10.
Essex came back strong but outstanding defensive work from Eastern Counties and great turnover ball kept Essex away from the try line and the game finishing with the scoreline of 12-10.
Both county teams enjoyed the opportunity to see there players in a competitive match allowing the coaches to mix things up a bit by putting players in different positions ready to select there final squad for the County Championships that start at the end of April.
