Eastern Counties Rugby Union

It is with great sadness we have to announce that our President John Winders passed away overnight, his family were with him at the time.

John had fallen ill only a few days ago and had been taken to hospital on Tuesday.

Anyone who has met John and that will be almost anyone involved in Rugby in Eastern Counties will remember that he always had a smile on his face and a positive word to say about anything, especially Rugby which was his passion.

This is a truly sad day for Eastern Counties Rugby and the Rugby community in general as we have lost a true friend and champion of the sport and its many volunteers.

Our thoughts are with his wife Mavis and their family and friends.
