Chris Capps-Jenner and Darren Wright appointed Director of Representative Rugby and Chair of Community Game Growth
Ambitious plans to support the growth of Rugby Union in the East of England have been boosted by the appointment of two key volunteers by Eastern Counties Rugby Union.
Following an extensive recruitment process and drawing from a strong field of candidates, Chris Capps-Jenner has been appointed to the position of Director of Representative Rugby for Eastern Counties, while Darren Wright will assume the role of Chair of Community Game Growth.
Chris Capps-Jenner will oversee Eastern Counties’ extensive programme of representative rugby including girls and boys squads from under 15 to under 18 age groups, county teams in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk, the successful adult women’s team, the adult mens 1st XV and the newly re-established Wanderers - Eastern Counties Men’s 2nd XV.
On being appointed Chris said “I am extremely excited about being given the opportunity to lead the representative playing programmes within Eastern Counties. I am particularly looking forward to working with the managers and coaches of the Boys, Girls, Women’s and Men’s programmes. Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire have an abundance of talented rugby players who I believe should be given every opportunity to represent not only Eastern Counties but their home county as well"
Darren Wright’s role is to ensure that more rugby is being played, by more people, more often - whether by men, women, boys or girls. This work will build on Eastern Counties’ track record of promoting all levels of rugby across the three counties of the east.
Darren says: "I am delighted to take up the new role of Community Game Growth Chairman at Eastern Counties. I’m looking forward to all the challenges ahead, and working with a great team of people to help grow the game and get more people playing, refereeing, coaching and involved in rugby in Eastern Counties.”
Alasdair Bovaird, Chair of Eastern Counties said: “These are key roles for the future of our great game, and I am convinced that we have the right people to take both the elite and community game in Eastern Counties forward. Darren and Chris are individuals of proven capability and I am delighted that they have joined our team.”
