Eastern Counties Rugby Union

Background: This vacancy has arisen as a consequence of the sad passing of John Mackay.

Eastern Counties Rugby Union operates and governs Adult Male Leagues and Merit Tables below that of London Regional Organising Committee (ROC) – currently these are from Level 7 downwards and under the title of ‘Greene King Leagues’. There are five Leagues in operation at this point, each administered by an experienced League Secretary – these all report to the Chair of Competitions.

It is possible that EC will look to begin a Women’s Merit Table, to accommodate ‘start-up’ Women’s Teams with a view to supporting their development before entering National Leagues. A League Secretary will be sought to administer this.

ECRU Competitions Chair will be expected to support the League Secretaries in their work, cascade information received from London DOC, on which Committee the Chair will be expected to sit – most of these meetings are now held virtually, and in the evening. London DOC also holds an Annual Retreat meeting, and the Chair of Competitions will be invited to this.

ECRU also holds a series of ‘Club meetings’ at the end-of season, to listen to what our Club Fixture Secretaries views are on our Competitions offer, to brief on alterations in Regulations from the RFU, and generally to ensure that all of our Cub Teams have a framework in which play.
