Colchester Rugby Club
unfortunately have to report the sad death of Ron Hatch on Monday, 10th August, after a very short illness.
Ron served the Club as Hon. Secretary in the 70s, 80s & 90s, , 1st XV Team Manager, League Secretary, 1st XV Touch Judge, Results Manager at Tournaments and much more besides. Latterly, he never missed a Club lunch ( where he was dubbed ‘Father of the House’, in order to support the 1st XV and cheer them on from the ‘dug-out.’ Last Autumn Ron enjoyed his 90th birthday with family and friends at his favourite venue, Colchester Rugby Club; it was a privilege to be present and hear so many tributes to a man who gave so much to our Club in many different roles. Many of the club’s current senior squads, whose ages range from 70 - 17, remember Ron for his hard work, his encouraging words and good humour.
And those of you of a Welsh persuasion will know how much he loved to watch his beloved Wales, especially if they were able to beat the English!!
Ron was a very positive influence on many, and an encouragement to all, particularly younger players.
Ron also served Eastern Counties on the Competitions Committee for 35 years !!, and was also Secretary of the Eastern Counties Discipline Committee in the 1990s (when ECs also included Essex)
A great rugby man and legend R.I.P. Ron
