It is with great sadness that we record the passing of John Taylor, who died on 29th. April, aged 83.
John was a long-time Referee with Cambridge University Referees, with some ten years active service, before becoming a Referee Mentor.
His involvement with Club Rugby, a matter always dear to his heart, was with Newmarket RFC, where he was a Founder Member of the Club in 1956. John played as Captain for many years, took several Committee posts, particularly Director of Rugby, taking the Club to level 6.
John served as President of Cambridgeshire for 2001 to 2003, and also as a Member of ECRU Community Rugby Group, where he was Volunteer Coordinator for Cambridgeshire.
John became President of ECRU for the 2013-15 seasons, and was respected throughout Eastern Counties for his knowledge, understanding and genuine interest in Grassroots Rugby. John would always listen to those that sought his advice, and would always freely offer his words of wisdom.
