Eastern Counties Rugby Union

10 clubs arrived at Stowmarket on Sunday.
The entry was maybe less than we might have hoped for, with a number of clubs resting/tending to injuries after 2 weeks of Merit Table games.
However these clubs all contributed to a great afternoon of competitive U17/U18 rugby, played in a great spirit, and in the sunshine !

Both Sudbury & Mersea arrived with short numbers, and they agree to join forces as a combined team.
Other clubs were short of the odd player, and it was great that other clubs were prepared to lend players.

Each club played four others in one large “pool” in order to determine a “batting order”.
Most scores were very close, and there were hardly any cricket scores.
No club claimed a 100% record, and only 2 clubs, Shelford & Woodbridge remained unbeaten after 4 rounds.

Shelford beat Bury by one try in the first / second play off.
Woodbridge beat Norwich by 10-0 in the 3rd / 4th place game.
Colchester & Stowmarket shared the 5th / 6th place, with one try apiece.
And Sudsea (Sudbury/Mersea) beat West Norfolk (supported by St Ives) in the 7th/8th place finale.
