The Webb Ellis Cup will be coming to Eastern Counties on 11 and 12 August as part of a 100-day tour before the Rugby World Cup kicks off at Twickenham on 18 September. The idea is to make the trophy as accessible as possible so here are the dates, times and venues when the Cup will be on display:
Tuesday 11 August
- 10:00-12:00 Lowestoft & Yarmouth RFC, England’s most Easterly Rugby Club. A summer fete style event is planned with local clubs taking part in a touch rugby tournament
- 14:00-16:00 Cromwell Square, Ipswich, where there is a statue to Prince Alexander Obolensky. The Russian Prince, playing for England against the All Blacks, scored one of the finest tries ever seen at Twickenham but tragically died during World War II in a training accident while flying for the RAF. Local teams and dignitaries will be in attendance and Touch Rugby demonstrations will be held in the adjoining car park.
- 17:00-19:00 The Red Devils Parachute Display Team will deliver the Trophy to Colchester Rugby Club where an evening of celebrations is planned to include local clubs in a touch rugby tournament
Wednesday 12 August - 9:00-11:30 Cambridge Rugby Club in conjunction with RWC 2015 Worldwide Partner Societe Generale will have the Trophy on display
- 12:30-15:30 Parkers Piece, Cambridge. The Trophy will be on display for photo opportunities and local clubs will be present to promote themselves and the game in general. This event has been jointly organised by Cambridgeshire RFU and Cambridge University
Members of the public are welcome at all of these events where they can take pictures with the Trophy.
