Eastern Counties Rugby Union

Saffron Walden Rugby Club was pleased to host its inaugural Returners Match last month on the 20th December and was delighted at the turnout.

There was a mixed group of lads from various age groups all of whom had been through either the Youth or Mini section at either Wendens Ambo or Saffron Walden.

The match was played with tempo with both sides settling into their positions and making maximum use of the pitch. Saffron Walden took the lead with the first try being scored by Joe Cardwell, which was not converted. There were then two tires scored by Wendens Ambo, by Matt Smith and Bradley Gant.
Second period tries for Wendens Ambo were scored by Matt Smith, his second of the game, François Earp, Alex Lipscome and Brad Grant.

Second period tries for Saffron Walden were scored by Ben Hugget and Daniel Rust.
The final score was Wendens Ambo 44 Saffron Walden 15

Saffron Walden RFC would like to acknowledge the financial support of Eastern Counties and the RFU and are planning on making this an annual event in the SWRFC Rugby Calendar.
