U15s win v Sussex 24-20
Both teams took to the park in their new strip kindly sponsored by Musk's sausages.
It was wet and windy as the Sussex and EC U15s kicked off at a muddy Uckfield RFC.
Sussex started the stronger and after 11 minutes went 5-0 up with a well worked try.
The weather and wet ball played a part in what was then a series of dropped balls and scrums and neither side gained much territory as the first half came to an end.
Sussex again started the brighter in the 2nd half and went 10-0 up after 8 mins.
It was very much looking like it was going to be a tough afternoon for the EC girls but on 12 mins they struck back with a good team effort and some great lines. 10-5.
Sussex came back at EC and 3 minutes later made it 15-5.
Driven on by their first try, Counties were playing with a new determination and confidence and on the 20 minute mark struck back with a great forwards try which was converted. 15-12.
Counties looked like a different side from that which had started the game and were now throwing the ball around and two minutes later scored again with a try under the posts which was converted. For the first time in the game the EC girls went ahead 15-19.
Sussex came back at the Counties Girls and it was nail biting stuff for the great support they had but with 2 minutes to go another try from EC made it 15-24.
Sussex came back and scored a try in the last minute to make it 20-24 and that’s how the game ended.
A very good game of rugby and very pleasing to see the girls put all that training at Diss to good effect. The contact aspect and competition for the ball was far better and the girls are starting to look at home in their positions. A great team effort and a great comeback. Roll on Essex.
The U18s did not fare so well being much depleted by various injuries and illnesses but sincere thanks to those girls who really gave their all.
